Part 2: MyLibrarian

In Winter 2021 I was approached to have Love and Mardi Gras be the February book club pick for the MyLibrarian app. I was extremely excited because it was the first time a book club that was not in my immediate area pick Love and Mardi Gras for their book club, and invite me to speak with the club. I’m usually made aware after the fact that my book was used in a book club, which I am always honored and grateful for, but I am happy to join a club, meet readers, sign books, and answer questions in person or on zoom. The best part about being picked by MyLibrarian was that if provided the opportunity for my book to be on another distribution channel.

As an indie author who released Love and Mardi Gras through a hybrid publisher, I have 100% control and ownership of my book. Therefore, after a quick email to my publisher they sent me to epub file and I was able to upload the file myself to the MyLibrarian app. This provided another distribution channel and opportunity to generate sales and form a friendship. The good thing about the app was that I was able to interact with the readers prior to my live interview.

Since my book was picked for February, I was able to post little tidbits about New Orleans and Mardi Gras, and give readers an inside view about the city, the holiday, and things that inspired me while Mardi Gras was happening. Mardi Gras is all about celebration and connection. Any way I am able to convey that to my readers I will happily do. I also enjoyed speaking with the owner, Michelle Zaffino. She was a fabulous interviewer, who asked very interesting questions that allowed me to think about my own book in a different way. Michelle is also interested in NFT’s and the possible uses of it within books and publishing. I created an NFT version of my book with the ideas and use cases that aren’t even invented yet. It was exciting for me as a tech person to combine my interests with someone who understands the possibilities of NFT’s and books. The discussion was beneficial in multiple ways, it was a good day!

Book Club Tips: Don’t be afraid to reach out to the author of the book your club is reading. We write for you, if we didn’t, we wouldn’t publish it.
