August is our birthday month, so settle in for a little birthday magic...
Wombmates, aka twins, not only share cake. We share birthday party’s, too. Today, I will share our funniest birthday party storytime, when instead of hitting a candy stuffed animal, we chose combat.
When we turned nine in our little Alaskan town, we invited every girl in our class to our birthday party. Our mother created a princess celebration, with Barbie dolls tucked into elaborate pink frosted cake dresses. It was sweet, sparkly, and magical.
Naturally, we forced each guest to pick which twin they really liked the best. Because this was the year we decided to stop sharing friends! Then, it was Team Harmony against Team Melody for an impromptu princess Birthday Fight Club.
I’m not sure who won, but I do remember ripping my new neon pink spandex shorts and at our next birthday, the other parents didn’t leave. They stayed for the party. (And since this was the 80s, it wasn’t to assure safety. Parents brought their own strawberry wine coolers, ready to bet on who would win this year.)
Happy birthday to us—proof that even sweet romance writers can have feral origin stories.
🌈 One More Rainbow
Summer Pride celebrations may be winding down, but the rainbow never leaves our cabin—or our romances.
August in Alaska brings memories of peak-summer hikes beneath nearly twenty hours of daylight, tourists stopping in the road to photograph mountains, and moose stopping in the road simply because they can.
