squirt guns, laughter, ice cream...

I want to thank everyone for your messages to my mom.

The 99.5 celebration was a huge success. The sun cooperated, everyone arrived safely, everyone brought a surprise to share, and the food didn’t run out! Perfect!

Listening to conversations unfold, I thought about how much a family gathering is like writing a mystery. Okay, this might be a stretch, but stay with me.

Every person has their own story but some threads overlap. Others branch off in unexpected directions. One conversation sparks another, an old memory leads to a new one, and before long, everyone is laughing about something that happened years ago—or crying, but I didn’t see any of that. I pictured those stories weaving together into one big tapestry.

That’s a little like writing a cozy mystery. Every character arrives with a history, a secret, a dream, and definitely a reason for being there. At first, the threads seem unrelated, but they overlap and begin to connect until the whole picture comes into focus.

The difference is that a mystery eventually reaches “The End.”

A family’s story continues.

There are still chapters waiting to be written, more birthdays to celebrate, more grandchildren to grow up, more stories to tell around the dinner table. That’s the beautiful part. We don’t know exactly what the next chapter will bring, but we know we’ll keep writing it together.

A note from a Small-Town Detective Dog (from the Cooking Club Murder Mysteries)

Tango’s Paw Prints 🐾

Hello, friends.

The humans called it a family celebration.

I called it the biggest gathering of potential snack droppers I’ve ever investigated.

I carefully inspected every chair, every napkin, and every grandchild for signs of unattended food. My detective work revealed crackers, cheese, but absolutely no meatballs. I suspect someone cleaned up the evidence before I arrived.

The best part wasn’t the snacks, though.

There was laughter, stories floating through the house, and enough hugs to make even a hardworking detective wag his tail.

I’ve decided that’s what makes a house feel full—not the number of people, but the number of happy memories being made.

And now… congratulations to the July winners. You’ve won a letter from me, Tango Mango! How pawsome is that?
and - please hit reply and send your address to Emmie.

Happy sniffing,

—Detective Tango 🐾
