I’m active but I don’t love traditional exercises.
I tried jogging. Once. Which I think deserves some credit.
I tried biking too, right up until I discovered that pavement is considerably harder than I am. After more than a few bumps, black and blues, and a bruised ego, I decided cycling wasn’t in my future.
But walking is another story. Walking and I have stayed friends. Maybe even best forever friends.
I love walking. Not because I’m trying to beat a personal record or count every step, but because there’s always something new to discover. A trail I’ve never taken. Wildflowers blooming where there weren’t any the week before. A rabbit darting across the path. A chipmunk scolding me from a stone wall. Sometimes a deer watching and waiting for me to continue. Sometimes nothing more exciting than clouds drifting overhead and birds arguing in the trees.
Walking is a slow enough pace to be able to enjoy what’s around me.
I set out on a new adventure without really knowing what’s around the corner. Sometimes I wander off the main path and find something wonderful. Sometimes I stop to admire the scenery. And occasionally, I realize I’ve gone farther than I intended, but somehow I’m exactly where I need to be.
That’s true about writing cozy mysteries, too. The story unfolds one step at a time. There are twists and surprises, familiar friends, and plenty of unexpected discoveries along the way.
And much like my walks, I rarely return home empty-handed. Sometimes I come back with a new story idea. Sometimes with a few photos. Sometimes with muddy shoes and a happy heart.
Not every journey has to be fast to be worthwhile.
Sometimes the scenic route is the best route of all.
Happy sleuthing,
💙 Emmie

Hello, friends!
Detective Tango here with my Exercise Tip of the Week.
Humans make exercise far too complicated.
Need fresh air? Walk.
Need inspiration? Walk.
Need to investigate suspicious squirrels? Maybe run but that’s an exception!
Personally, I recommend stopping frequently to sniff important clues, admire butterflies, and greet every person as though they’ve returned from a three-year expedition.
Also, if you happen to find snacks along the way, that’s what professionals call a bonus.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a neighborhood patrol to conduct.

P.S. Emmie said I can add a poll today. This is important detective work. Please respond. If there’s enough interest, I’ll follow-up next week! If not...I'll assume you've all been distracted by squirrels. Thank you ~ Tango 🐾
