Last week I was lucky enough to go to a World Cup game for the first time in my life. And while I was sweating it out at Metlife Stadium (worth it!), I was thinking a lot about collective joy. There’s a lot of bad news to choose from, that’s for sure. But I think a lot of what we’ve seen the last few weeks have shown that the world can be a beautiful place beyond a lot of noise—the Knicks celebrations, my close personal friend Taylor Swift’s wedding, and, yes, the World Cup. It was pretty special to be in a stadium full of people from every nation, just happy to be celebrating the world coming together. If you haven’t been watching, I recommend joining in on some collective joy of your own.
I hope you all survived the great heat dome July 4th celebrations! We hilariously were cooler in Charleston, SC (my hometown!) than we would’ve been in New York, which is topsy turvy to think about. But it was a weekend of family, pool time and, yes, lots of soccer.
But I also got to read some great books and cook a lot of food, so onward we go!
Well first of all, a VERY exciting moment has arrived, because The Apparent Trap has a cover! Between us, this cover took a lot of years off my life. We had a lot of versions that just didn’t quite fit. I’m very lucky to have an editor and publisher that also care a lot about getting it right, so we took our time. And she’s here! Isn’t she gorgeous? I can’t wait to share the fun I have for pre-order gifts and all sorts of goodies, so be on the lookout for that very soon. It’s going to be an exciting autumn!
But more pressing, today one of my favorite authors has a new book out. Lindsay Hameroff’s Rewrite the Stars is one of those books that feels like a 90’s romcom. I read it early and got to blurb it and this is what I said: "Lindsay Hameroff is, full stop, one of the funniest, sharpest writers in romance. But in her newest book, Rewrite the Stars, we also get to see the depth of her writing on motherhood and fighting for what we deserve. I loved it." So pick it up! And if you’re in NYC, come join us 7/17 for a chat at The BookMark Shoppe!
This time of year is all about pie for me. We’re in peak strawberry and peach season, and we’re coming up on blueberries. So I thought I’d share a few secrets to perfect pie crust with you guys.
And if you want to use that crust to make something savory, I also recommend using cherry tomatoes to make an easy but impressive pie!
Did anyone make anything great for the holiday weekend?
Hope you’re all enjoying the summer! Stay cool and hope you’re reading some great books!
