The Trump administration rolled out a new tactic to generate removal orders: piling well over 100 court cases on short notice into impossibly crowded single hearings. These “mega-masters” hearings have received some attention—but not enough. And not enough reporting has examined how these hearings are scheduled, why the courts are able to do this, and what this means for the future of the immigration courts. I took a few minutes today to talk through my recent analysis of mega-masters and what I learned from people close to the issue in a Substack Live event today.
