It’s not often that you hear something new on Guitar. Everything Comes From Somewhere, Always. We all stand on the shoulders of those who have come before. But Nick Freer’s uncompromising new album “Apperceptions” pushes the boundaries of the guitar, particularly harmonically. Guaranteed that you haven’t heard things like this before. It’s fair to say we worked really hard for a long time trying to get the notation right on this one. It was difficult because standard chord and harmonic nomenclature can’t accurately describe what’s actually going on here.
Apperceptions is a jazz fusion release by guitarist and composer Nick Freer, blending intricate compositions with fluid improvisation and contemporary fusion textures. Featuring Justin Humphries on drums and Anton Davidyants on bass, the trio delivers a dynamic and expressive sound shaped by complex harmonies, rhythmic interplay, and melodic storytelling. Designed to be heard as a complete listening experience, Apperceptions unfolds as a cohesive musical journey that bridges technical precision with atmosphere and emotion.
