At This Rate, Will We Have A National Park System After Trump?

So grateful to see more of the Sun each day as sunrise moves south over the Blue Mountains.

Happiest day, beloved Joy Train Rider! I love you! Bless you! I affirm we are doing well.

I say that and believe it because it helps me hold Peace, which is the highest and most beneficial vibration on the energy spectrum. Since I accept that our world is built on vibration, I feel it is incumbent upon me to hold steady no matter what.

I can say it requires more focus and clarity than ever now, although I’ve been practicing this way of being for more than two decades. With the President, the Republican congress and the Supreme Court poking their thumbs in the eye of the American public and trying to obliterate our democratic norms, I have to pay near-permanent attention to what is happening in my mind.

A dear friend in the conservation field reminded me this week that she is continually helped by what my husband Frank told us years ago, “Do all you can, then let it go. The outcome is not up to you.”

When I woke up to the news yesterday that bulldozers are already tearing up land in Big Bend National Park to build a border wall, against the opposition of legions of officials, citizens and business people across the country and the State of Texas, I had to take many moments to quiet my spirit. It didn’t help to think that those who create a monster may eventually be destroyed by it. The President is now openly defying the Supreme Court and those who are supposed to keep his office in balance but somehow haven’t.

Simultaneously I was given the gift of return to a much simpler time, when I finally began sorting dozens of boxes of papers and photographs we’ve stored in the loft for years. I’d been planning to address it for at least two years since my beloved Godsister visited, took one look and intoned, “ Audrey you have to do something about this. If something happens to you, you don’t want your daughter to have to deal with it.”

Ouch! I love my daughter and our family dearly so it really struck a nerve. Yet it wasn’t until this week that I acted on it, and the first great gift I found was the collection of volumes of Pickup & GO! newsletters about our travels to the National Parks that we published from 1995-2009, that I thought I’d lost forever. The ebullience and joy that leapt out of those pages was just what my spirit needed to meet this moment.

I misstated the acreage, which was closer to 630 million.

The outlook for our natural treasures today feels like the difference between seeing through the sparkling eyes of a child versus seeing through the rheumy eyes of old age. Since I’m fortunate both to be able to see clearly and to have the imprint of the parks from that more respectful time on my heart, I can hold their past, present and future in focus.

Beloved Rider we’ve traveled to Big Bend National Park before, so today I just want to take us for a brief reverie and fact-finding mission, that we may see clearly where we have been and where we appear to be headed. The difference still depends upon WE, the People, and whether we have enough faith in our power and responsibility to act.

One of the first things that may strike you is the difference in costs:
