Bring back a theme, I beg!!! My friends and I had such a good time at my y2k themed thirtieth, we’re now locked in on any other themes we can whip out for a party. Sorry, I moved on from my themed birthday too quick. People showed up dressed as Troy and Chad from HSM, and yes, they brought a basketball. I had butterflies on my heels and gems on my face. It was glorious.
Now, I’m desperate for a tumblr themed night out. What else have I been keeping my black hat for? You know the one. Another one of the girls is looking to do a ‘back to school’ theme for her house warming in September. What else have we got? What themes are on your list?
Before there was Substack, there was Wordpress, and that’s exactly where George and I met. We became fast friends in the comment section of our fashion blogs. This was fifteen years and a country ago now, yet George remains one of the coolest girls I know.
George is a Talent Manager in London, is currently running a series called “How to dress the main character of your life” (I’m obsessed). She’s is one of those people who whenever you see her you’re just like “how did you even conceive of this outfit? It’s so good. Where did you even find these clothes? They’re so good.” Now she’s expanded her series to “where to shop like a main character” and I am living!!!!! It’s about to be so over for you now that I know where George shops.
Also, she has the most fabulous dog called Bonnie who’s content is even better than mine. Because of course she does and of course it is.
Picture it: It’s mid-August in Edinburgh. Peak Fringe festival season. Everywhere you go there’s at least fifty people, and you spend at least fifty pounds. But baby, it’s not my first rodeo! I front-loaded my Fringe season with a stellar evening out on the very first weekend in August, and now I’m out here protecting my peace and enjoying my rent. Last month my friends and I started a monthly poker night, we rotate flats each month and it’s a nice, lowkey way to hang out for a few hours without having to go out and spend a fortune! That’s what I did with my Saturday night last weekend. And I felt so smug walking by the flyer-ers on my way to my friend’s flat.
If you wear shoes in your house, you can scroll past this. This is not for you. And another thing: what the fuck is wrong with you????? I was raised in a strictly no shoes indoors household, and I hold true to this. I love my slippers. But, I am unfortunately married to a man who wears shoes in the house (as long as it’s not carpet?).
I’ve tried, friends, I’ve tried hard. I’ve made him slippers, I’ve bought him slippers, I’ve sent him scientific videos showing how disgusting floors are when you wear shoes in the house. Nothing works. Laziness prevails. For me, this means my beloved slippers get really gross on the bottom :( And in the summertime, it’s too hot for slippers but my white socks get … not white… without slippers. Enter, my new adidas slides. After years of lifeguarding I promised myself I would never own crocs or slides, and now I own both. I love them.
According to my mom’s doctor, it turns out slides are great for wearing indoors if you are hypermobile (we are) because they provide more support for your feet!
my beloved snorlax t shirt; you know that trend of people posting ‘pics I feel weirdly pretty in’? Well, I feel weirdly pretty in my snorlax tshirt. I love snorlax. Yes it is mens, but it’s also on sale for £15!
the correspondent by virginia evans; i read this on holiday and it wasn’t a huge page turner, but it had depth whilst still being very readable. A very nice line to toe!
Uniqlo jw adernson baggy jeans; in fact, the whole jw anderson collection sings to my old tomboy heart. The oversized cuts are boyish in an understated way. These jeans are on sale now for £25!
Uniqlo boxy t-shirt; see above. it’s not in the collection but it has the same vibe. I usually wear a small but I bought an XL and I loooooooove how it fits! Also, 100% cotton baby.
Boots own glossy lip balm; I’m sure this is a dupe for a more popular brand but idk what it is. The boots one is great though, I always keep it in my bag!
AZTK blush; bought this in a mega yesstyle haul awhile back and oh my god I love it. I got a light peachy colour, and it’s such a good, natural looking blush. Gone are my days of living in fear of insanely over blushing with one small tap!
Sunday Riley ceramic slip cleanser; I went to a Sunday Riley event a few weeks ago and came away with so so so many free samples. Sidenote: Sunday herself gave a talk and I learned so much from her! I’ve been using this cleanser for the past few weeks and actually love it.
Glaze hair gloss; my friend uses this as a temporary colour and gloss, but they have a clear one I’m going to try. I don’t let any colour that didn’t touch my hairstylists’ hands touch my hair, but I do want to attack the frizz a little in between professional touch ups.
Rhode highlight milk; apparently gives a super subtle glowy finish, and comes in multiple colours for different effects. I’ve been using the l’oreal glow maximizer for a dewy look, but I’m keen to see how this compares!
the minga london belt bag; it’s just so cool.
desigual y2k maria escote bag; i love it. clearly i’m in a phase, but this bag is fantastic
jean chains; currently only really being pushed at men, and maybe it’s my recent y2k party talking but i really think it’s high time we get these on our jeans ladies.
