One of my oldest friends came to stay this week. We have known each other since we were four.
There is something very grounding about spending time with someone who has known you for almost your entire life. Someone who has seen you through the highs and lows of life, remembers your parents when they were still young, your childhood home, your teenage self, was there for your wedding day, the birth of your children, in fact every meaningful event of your life. I think these very old friendships have felt particularly precious to me this year. Since losing my brother in April, the people who hold pieces of my history feel even more precious. There is something incredibly comforting old friends that know you so well, good and bad.
Anyway, old friends need feeding.
