I was on my way home from the Rachel Comey store on Crosby Street yesterday w/Raffi when I passed a woman wearing a long gray trench coat, black Beats headphones, great jeans, and brown leather loafers…

And no purse to speak of.

It nearly took the wind out of me. Looking at her over my shoulder as I moved in the opposite direction, watching her drift past, I wanted to RUN AFTER her and ask if I could take her picture (Raffi wouldn’t let me!), all because she was out in the world w/out a purse…and I was BEWITCHED.

Can we do this now? Not bring any of our shit w/us? Use our phones for everything? Be operating humans/grown WOMEN going about our business sans handbag?? As we boarded the R train, I couldn’t stop thinking about her. Living her life in a loose coat and comfortable shoes, looking AMAZING, probably listening to Tame Impala or some deep cut of Fleetwood Mac that all the kids seem to love these days…

…moving through the world w/ease.

This is the mood of spring. Or my mood/my spring…the one I want to be living in. Despite political tyranny, economic undertows, dark web conspiracies…spring is here. (Even if a few menacing 30-degree days want to taunt us otherwise).

There is something so pointed about seeing that hands-free woman AND the fact that she was listening (I imagine) to something blissful, something putting her in the Zone. And THAT Zone is appealing to me. Being in the world right now with all of its sharp elbows while also finding a way to glide through, in harmony with the space and people around us…and also OURSELVES.

And YES to this.

So, that’s my move now…I may not be bag-free (yet!!), but I’m actively removing any friction I don’t need. IE: Every itchy tag, sticky zipper, pinchy shoe, cloying crotch…NOPE to all of it.

Which is why today’s latest Micro Wardrobe is WRAPPING ITS ARMS around only the most essential pieces that provide a big bunch of comfort and ease with a tiny dash of something groovy, soulful, energizing (like whatever good stuff was playing on that lady’s headphones 💕). Speaking of headphones, here’s our latest A Tiny Apt. playlist, ATA 18—Spring Groovies, with about 2 hours of excellent music you’ll want to play while putting some fun spring outfits together…🌞

You can find all our ATA Playlists right here, it’s one of the special things I make for A Tiny Apt. subscribers that I hope makes it even more worth it to be a part of our Paid tier, helping us to grow and deepen ALL the good stuff we do here. ❤️

The good people at Aura sent me a digital frame recently, and while I’d heard incredible things about it, I was initially a bit skeptical given how much I love real photos and real (vintage:) frames. However, once we set it up (which took about three minutes TOPS), and Raf and I uploaded 20 or so photos into the carousel, I was AMAZED! The resolution and flow is so beautiful…and moving. I loved it so much I decided to order another one for myself and give this one to my mom for Mother’s Day (I can pre-load the images, and upload new ones for her so every few weeks she has a new album to brag about). I’m just so thrilled with it, so if you’ve been looking for a Mother’s Day gift that’s a little different/more personal, get this frame. Best of all: Aura is offering all A Tiny Apt. subscribers $35 off the Aspen frame (pictured above), just use the code ATINYAPT at check-out, valid through 5/13. #aurapartner

Since along w/spring’s many 🌸 gifts it also brings some dodgy weather, I’ve collected and mixed-and-matched about seven or so pieces/sections here that you can either repurpose from your own closet in some dazzling new ways OR upgrade one or two from our list that you really fall in love with. That’s what I did…hauled out everything in my arsenal that fit that vibe of ease and functionality w/a hit of FANCY and singled out about four things I didn’t have (like a white loafer and a sleeveless white T-shirt) that I needed new. OKAY…we’ve got a lot of good stuff here, so let’s GET INTO IT, shall we?

Long beaded necklace is Sézane, washable cashmere sweater is Tibi, bag is Elleme, and a baggy painter pant (MY FAVORITE is by Jamie Haller).
Playing w/ “Cold Was the Ground” by the Limiñanas.
