The Daily Five Method

One thing I’ve noticed over the years is that our desk drawers have a funny way of becoming the “just put it here for now” space.

A receipt from lunch.

An extra charging cable.

Random sticky notes.

Business cards.

Pens that no longer work.

Before we know it, we’re digging through clutter just to find the one thing we actually need.

Most of us use far less than we think we do.

Think about your morning routine.

Even if your bathroom cabinets are full of products, you probably reach for the same handful of items every single day.

  • Your toothbrush

  • Toothpaste

  • Face wash

  • Moisturizer

  • Maybe your favorite lipstick

Your routine is surprisingly simple.

The same is true at your desk.

If you paid attention for just a few days, you’d probably discover there are only a handful of things you consistently reach for.

Maybe it’s:

  • Your favorite pen

  • A stapler

  • Hand lotion

  • Your planner

  • Your glasses

Those are your essentials.

Everything else is simply an occasional visitor.

That’s where I love encouraging clients to use what I call The Daily Five Method.

Choose the five items you genuinely use every workday and give them a permanent home in your desk drawer.

Maybe your number is four.

Maybe it’s six.

The number isn’t nearly as important as the intention behind it.

You’re identifying the tools that truly support your everyday routine.

If you use it every day, it deserves a home.

If you don’t, let it earn its place.

Once you’ve established your Daily Five, something wonderful happens.

Your desk drawer becomes incredibly easy to maintain.

When something new finds its way into the drawer and it isn’t part of your Daily Five, it’s your cue that it probably belongs somewhere else.

Instead of allowing clutter to slowly build, you now have a simple system that helps you make quick decisions.

One habit I recommend to everyone is ending the workweek with a five-minute office reset.

Take just a few minutes to:

✓ Straighten your desk

✓ File away loose papers

✓ Toss anything you no longer need

✓ Return your Daily Five to their designated spots

It’s a small habit...

...but it makes such a difference.

Walking into a clean, organized workspace on Monday morning feels like giving yourself a fresh start before the week even begins.

Beautiful organization isn’t about having less for the sake of having less.

It’s about surrounding yourself with what truly serves you and creating simple systems that make everyday life feel a little lighter.

So today, take a look inside your desk drawer and ask yourself one simple question:

What are my Daily Five?

I’d love to know what made your list.

Happy Organizing, 🤍

Nikki
