Nietzsche on Academia and Classical Education

This is a preview to the first recording for an entire series I’ve been working on for my subscribers over the past year that will cover the entirety of Nietzsche’s masterpiece Thus Spoke Zarathustra: A Book for All and None.

In the full recording I introduce the thought of Nietzsche by canvassing all of his published writings including extensive use of his notebooks. The recording itself introduces the following from a meticulous dive into the entirety of Nietzsche’s oeuvre:

— Science as Nietzsche understands it

— Philology, the Greeks, and Homer as Nietzsche understands them

— History as Nietzsche understands it

— Art as Nietzsche understands it

— Beauty, Eros, and Breeding as Nietzsche understands them

— Paganism versus Christianity as Nietzsche understands them

— Nihilism as Nietzsche understands it

All seven of those themes converge into what human life means for Nietzsche, which itself informs his teaching of what a truly classical education should contain.

Throughout the discussion I emphasize Nietzsche’s most powerful thoughts on why academics are so vehemently against such a true classical education due to their politically liberal convictions or their religious convictions or, most problematically, their convictions to both.
