Why it's so important to be systems thinkers and how it helps us imagine a better future

A few things we talked about in this episode:

  • Qaartsiluni (also spelled qarrtsiluni) is a traditional Inuit concept meaning “sitting together in the dark in silence, waiting for something new to emerge” (which we learned about through Francis Weller’s work). It’s specifically related to the whale hunters who would wait for the song of the whales to let them know that they could begin the hunt.

  • Thrutopia, a term coined by writer and philosopher Rupert Read, is a storytelling and cultural concept that maps a realistic, constructive path through major modern crises—such as climate change—rather than stopping at a hopeless dystopia or an impossible utopia.

  • The Body is Not an Apology, by Sonya Renee Taylor
