Location: The location is one of the biggest reasons I’d recommend The Connaught. Mayfair is one of my favorite neighborhoods in London, and so many of the places I return to are within walking distance.

Mr. Nice is a great choice for date night, Gagosian is just around the corner, The Row and Liberty London are two of my favorite places to shop, and Paul Rothe & Sons makes one of the best pastrami sandwiches I’ve had. I also love At The Movies, a small shop specializing in vintage film posters. They helped me source my first wedding anniversary gift for Shane (year one is paper).

Vibe: It’s quintessentially British: elegant, polished, and contemporary. The bedding is impeccably crisp, the service is attentive, and every space feels beautifully maintained.

That said, it isn’t without history. The hallways are lined with paintings, the wood staircases are beautiful, and there are subtle reminders throughout the hotel that it’s been part of Mayfair for generations. It simply wears that history with a little more restraint.

Rooms: I’d book a Contemporary Studio or above. The entry-level rooms feel a little too compact for my liking, while the studios strike a much nicer balance.

If you’re considering one of the suites, the Sutherland Suite and the Connaught Suite are my favorites. They lean further into the building’s history with more architectural detail and feel much more layered. The apartment-style suites are especially beautiful and come with a number of thoughtful complimentary inclusions.

For most travelers, though, the Contemporary Studio is where I’d start.

Restaurant(s): There are several excellent restaurants and bars throughout the hotel, but London has too many incredible restaurants for me to prioritize dining at the hotel.

That said, I would make time for The Red Room. It’s behind a heavy velvet curtain, it’s intimate, moody, and exactly where I’d end the evening with a glass of wine before heading upstairs. Even if you have dinner elsewhere, it’s well worth coming back for one last drink.

Amenities: The Aman Spa is reason enough to spend a little more time at the hotel.

As the first Aman Spa outside one of the brand’s resorts, it brings that same sense of calm into the middle of Mayfair. It’s exquisite, and I’d love to spend some time here after a long travel day to settle into London, or on your final afternoon after days of walking the city.
