In a move that surprises well, everyone this past Christmas Eve. Twitter decided to give everyone an edit button but it wasn’t for posts. It was so that people could use the edit button on artist’ artwork that is posted on the website. Leading many artists to flee the site to bluesky, where as others are thinking of ways to combat the AI so that they can be able to post their art on the site, and others that just feel like giving up.

The thing is that AI or in this case Generative Art isn’t even that good at replicating the art that any artist can put out. The hands are always off or has more digits than asked. The eyes are off center. Hair goes in places that it shouldn’t or melts in with the character itself.
Which again it doesn’t really do the art justice or anything. And the fact that Twitter decided to do this is a slap in the face to artists everywhere. Which is causing many of them to either jump ship or try to stick around.
Though this is causing infighting amongst the Vtuber community because artists are saying that vtubers aren’t allowed to post the art that they commissioned. Which may seem like a slight against the vtubers. But as someone that does draw and is an artist. (not a good one), however, I will say that if one of my artists said “hey don’t post this on twitter” I would do so.
It’s a sign of respect.
Like it’s not hard to comply with a simple request but somehow people have it in their heads that it infringes on their rights. You’re not entitled to the art. Art is always going to be a luxury and an option. Without artists there aren’t any vtubers. Now artists won’t have the traction as they would without vtubers but really it’s the vtubers that need artists more than artists need vtubers.
So for vtubers to try and fight against artists is kind of a silly notion. But for now artists are scrambling to try and find a safe corner of the internet away from AI in the hopes that their art won’t be used to train the generative AI.
Time will tell.
