Morality of AI

Generative AI is a hot button topic and has been for many years. Recently it’s been more of a hot topic with popular vtuber Ironmouse cancelling her collaboration with Nothingness to Everness, a new gacha game that just came out due to their use of Generative AI and not disclosing that they were using Generative AI somewhere in their process. Many people are calling her out for virtue signaling though I found something peculiar is the number of people calling her out are Christian, and use Generative AI themselves.

I may be a lapsed Catholic, however, the Bible is absolute especially well within the Ten Commandments that states that Thou Shall Not Steal. For those who are not aware, Generative AI takes different parts of artwork and tries to sew it back together into some deranged homunculus. I think the maddening thing is how many Christians don’t understand that falling into sin isn’t a good thing. Especially since the Bible says that it’s theft.

Now many will try to get around it by saying “well fanart is theft then!” Here’s the thing though, as an artist, I don’t draw fan art. I draw original characters and designs. I have never been one to draw fan art and I’m not going to start.

The thing with being Christian is that you’re not supposed to sin or keep sinning. People keep trying to use Grace to excuse someone sinning but the problem is that Grace is only for those who are repenting for their sin. It’s not for those who are to keep sinning. Basically if you’re caught stealing, then you’re supposed to not steal again. While yes we all fall short of God’s glory and can’t match up to Jesus being sinless, however, that doesn’t mean that you suddenly give up.

The whole point of being a Christian is to repent and try to raise yourself to that of Jesus. As I said before countless times, God is using Jesus as a blueprint for who he wants to be in His Kingdom. For those using Generative AI and knowingly sin, it brings a bad image. Not to mention that many use Generative AI to make graven images of Jesus. Another big no no. While yes, Jesus died for our sins, however it doesn’t erase the face that we are flawed.

I don’t see Jesus being supportive of Generative AI and I’m sure that he would rather that all Christians would use their talents to draw and write on their own as God intended for them. He would rather that we use those talents than to use a machine to steal from others.

Not to mention that we are commanded to aspire to be like him. The word Christian derives from the word Christos which means Like Christ or Little Christ. We are supposed to repent for our sins and be able to absolve ourselves. We are supposed to not sin anymore not keep on sinning. It honestly shouldn’t be that hard of a concept but for whatever reason within the multiple branches of Christianity, it’s causing a divide.

We should be wanting to sit at the table that Jesus would sit at. Not the table that Jesus would throw. I don’t see how that concept is so hard to grasp.
