POV: you hopped off the plane at LAX, took a stroll down Rodeo Drive, and now you’re heading to the pink wall on Melrose for the perfect photo moment. THIS is LA in the 2010s.
We saw the 2016 revival earlier this year, but lately I've been noticing nostalgia go even further back (think 2010-2013). Between the Free City sweatpants comeback, the return of the mega-viral Triangl bikini, and a general yearning for the LA Tumblr Girl, this aesthetic is on the rise. Unlike the Indie Sleaze revival, the LA 'it girl' of the 2010s is all about pops of bright color and fun prints with a carefree, beachy vibe. See below for inspo, essentials, and outfits you can recreate to get the look.
Staples include worn-in sweatpants and hoodies, studded denim shorts, camo print, hot pink and turquoise everything, and UGG boots. Madhappy, Free City, Aviator Nation, and Wildflower are great for nailing the classic Los Angeles vibe. I'd also check your local thrift stores or secondhand sites for vintage pieces from that era, especially from brands like Hollister, Victoria’s Secret PINK, and Abercrombie.
All you really need to embody the LA ‘it girl’ of the 2010s is a pair of vintage sweatpants and a simple cami + the right accessories. Big sunglasses, a slouchy purse, and UGG boots will give you the ‘messy but put-together’ vibe.
Throw on a camo set with your Starbucks frappé in hand, and suddenly you’re transported to 2011 as you strut down the Santa Monica pier. Combat boots and a studded phone case are also a must.
Is she even an LA Tumblr Girl if she’s not wearing the classic Triangl bikini?! Let the bright swimsuit be the star of the show with an off-shoulder white tee and denim shorts. Add a matching flat-brim hat to bring it to the next level.
