Welcome to the Astros Future Newsletter! Another week of baseball is in the books. Let's look at who is hot in the Astros system, as well as some other notes and articles.

Who's Hot At The Plate?

Walker Janek - Janek had a rough start to the season and ended up on the injured list. Once healthy, he hit well in his rehab games and that has continued with the Hooks. This week the catcher hit .375 with a double, a home run, 2 runs batted in and 4 stolen bases.

Juan Rojas - Rojas was signed as an international free agent in January of 2025. This year, at 18 years old, he has been playing in the Florida Complex League and had a big week. He played in five games this week and hit .357 with a triple, 2 home runs and 9 runs batted in.

Tyler Whitaker - Whitaker was drafted way back in 2021, but is putting together his best season as a professional. This week Whitaker hit .368 with a double, 2 home runs and a stolen base. Overall he has a .758 OPS with 8 home runs and 16 stolen bases in 76 games.

Anthony Huezo - Huezo has had a true breakout season and recently earned a promotion to High-A. This week Huezo played in five games and hit .316 with a double, 2 home runs and 4 runs batted in. Overall this season he has 21 doubles, 4 triples, 17 home runs and 32 stolen bases.

Who's Hot On The Mound?

Bryce Mayer - Mayer has been really good this season, following up on his pitcher of the year award in 2025. This week for the Hooks, Mayer tossed 6 scoreless innings with 9 strikeouts. He’s racked up 91 strikeouts over 63 innings with a 2.86 ERA this season in Double-A.

Jackson Nezuh - Nezuh had a breakout season a few years ago and this season, he appears to have found that success again. Nezuh made a start for Sugar Land this week and struck out 9 over 6 innings allowing 2 runs. Overall this season he has a 3.91 ERA with 90 K in 74.1 innings.

Jagger Beck - Beck was signed as an undrafted free agent back in 2024 and has been really good this season. The 19-year-old made one start this week and tossed 6 scoreless innings with 6 strikeouts. On the season Beck has posted a 2.67 ERA with 72 strikeouts over 60.2 innings in Single-A.

Juan Fraide - Fraide was signed by the Astros out of Mexico in January of 2025. He’s been strong in the early going and this week the 20-year-old tossed 5 scoreless innings with 6 strikeouts. In eight games in Single-A this season he’s posted a 2.38 ERA with 41 strikeouts over 34 innings.
