The Taurus New Moon (Moon+Sun) will occupy the dynamic Krittika nakshatra. This lunar mansion is ruled by Lord Agni, who represents the fiery principle which is sharp, creative, and courageous. The New Moon occurring here suggests swift action and fiery bursts of energy leading to sudden endings and new beginnings.
Occurring in the Capricorn navamsa, the Moon in Krittika manifests in real, practical, and substantial results. This will be even truer because Mercury will also be conjoined the Sun and Moon. Also, it should be noted that the New Moon and Mercury will conjoin Uranus the Awakener, which can have a disruptive tone, but also an exciting one heralding an important transformation.
And last but not least, this New Moon (and Mercury) will conjoin the fixed star Algol, which occupies two degrees and eighteen minutes of sidereal Taurus. It also indicates potential for illness and violence in some cases. The Vedic holy day known as Shani Jayanti will be observed on Saturday, May 16. This is an important Vedic holy day which commemorates the birth of Shani Dev (Saturn), the lord of truth and karma.
Shani Jayanti occurs once a year on the amavasya tithi in the Vaishakha month in April or May. (Note that the amavasya tithi is the lunar day that precedes the New Moon which occurs at the beginning of pratipada tithi). This year, Shani Amavasya is especially significant because it occurs on a Saturday, the day of the week ruled by Saturn itself! When the amavasya tithi occurs on a Saturday, this is known as Shani Amavasya.
When Shani Jayanti and Shani Amavasya take place on the same day, Vedic astrologers consider this very powerful for Saturn remedies and spiritual discipline. On this day, Saturn’s power has the ability to not only clear some of our karma but also to transmute it into exponential blessings.

The Sun will also transit into Taurus on May 14 (Vrishabha Sankranti and Vishnupati), a very holy day for prayer and spiritual remembrance.
From May 14 to June 8, Venus will transit in Gemini. Venus in Gemini will form a mutual reception (parivartana yoga) with Mercury in Taurus from May 14 to May 29. This auspicious combination can enhance human relations, communication, creative ventures, travel, and financial matters.
Venus will share the sign of Gemini with Jupiter until June 1, bringing some good luck and a positive boost of energy during the remainder of May. Mercury will join Jupiter and Gemini in Gemini for a few days, from May 29 to June 1, adding to this positivity!
