Back, back at Substack, and on a new schedule

Dear readers,

I learned something this summer: trying to do a column every two weeks is not going to work for me. Without the rhythm of “this is what I do on Tuesday,” I kept forgetting. And then the habit was lost.

During my sabbatical, when I developed this , I reasoned that if I could write a column in an hour, I could sustain a weekly column even when I was back to work. Maybe that was true, but I haven’t been able to keep it to an hour, and my life is too busy for a weekly column. Instead, I’ll write on the first Tuesday of every month. That makes it memorable for my brain, and as much as I would love to be able to sustain a weekly column, I hope that monthly will be frequent enough to hold your interest.

I also really do not like the interface on Ghost, so I am back to Substack. It works well for me, so I will have to use the tiny scrap of influence that being a Substack writer to ask them to please enforce their own standards vis-a-vis writers who shouldn’t be given this platform.
