My mother-in-law made me a string of glass prayer flags. They hang outside our front door, and they’re one of my favorite things. It’s been years since I first hung them, but the other day, I stood on our front stoop and happened to look up.
In doing so, I discovered that, for a very short span of time, when the light and the angle of the sun and the time of year are just right, the flags scatter a medley of rainbows across the eaves of our house. They flutter and dance, these prisms, as though someone cast a handful of rainbows across the ceiling like glitter, defying gravity in the process.
I snapped a photo and texted it to my mother-in-law. Did you know these made rainbows? I asked, glee bouncing from cell tower to tower before landing in her hands.
The tendency to tone down my joy over simple things echoed in my mind before sending the missive. Why share it? Why not simply see it? That’s enough, right? But sharing delight created by a gift with the one who gifted it puts us in an ouroboros of joy, and who doesn’t want that?

Seek out the opportunity to amplify joy by sharing a tiny wonder from your world with someone for whom it would have meaning. When you see it, don’t let your ego, doubt, or fear talk your Self out of sharing it.
