As many of you likely know, right wing MAGA influencers on X have spent the days since Charlie Kirk’s murder doxxing private citizens for not appropriately mourning Kirk’s death. The nexus of this effort has been a website called Charlie’s Murderers. For four days, the individual who created this website solicited submissions from internet strangers and published personal information about these citizens, often including photographs and places of employment. He only stopped when he realized he was exposed legally.
As a result of this viral campaign, a number of people have lost their jobs. (The spinelessness of large employers who bend the knee for X shitposters and paid MAGA influencers, and the collusion of our mainstream media is a story for another day.) Others have had strangers show up to their doors.
Charlie’s Murderers now redirects to a site for something called the Charlie Kirk Data Foundation, which promises to “track statistics on the prevalence of political extremism.” The former site has been stripped of its doxxing victims and their photos. I suspect a flood of cease and desist letters, as well as threats of litigation, forced this individual to pivot.
However, as of 11pm CST, that site, too, is down.
X is not happy. “You guys better release all the names and you better not be bitching out,” one user wrote. Another said, “Just publish the fucking database. Quit farming donos. Quit farming twitter. Publish the fucking data.”
The person behind this mass doxxing site is hiding behind proxy registrants and privacy protections despite claiming moral high ground in this awful situation. One would think that someone so sure of the rightness of his cause would be proud to own it. Instead, he is too afraid to attach his identity to his project, but is more than happy to ask for “donations” to fund his efforts.
I’ve only done a little digging into the purveyor of this site, but based on what I’ve learned, I believe Charlie’s Murderers is the brainchild of a single, male individual, who was surprised by its success on X, and who now expects to make it “his job.” Wired has covered this story and is likely working to identify the individual(s) behind the doxxing sites. Public service announcement: pay for Wired if you can. They are one of a handful of outlets actually practicing independent journalism these days.
A couple things of note. The operator stood up two domains within four days. The Charlie’s Murderers site was registered on September 10th, 2025. Charlie Kirk Data Foundation on the 14th. Charlie’s Murderers was registered with NameCheap. Charlie Kirk Data Foundation with Epik. It’s possible the switch in registrars is due the Bluesky campaign to deluge Namecheap with abuse complaints.
This individual took care to hide his name and contact details utilizing Whois privacy via Epik. He is utilizing Cloudflare’s reverse proxying to conceal the server IP. He built the original doxxing site using Squarespace, and metadata indicates it was set up in British Columbia, Canada, as that is its registered location. Of course, this doesn’t necessarily mean this is where the individual is located, just that whoever built the site selected those defaults in their Squarespace account. It’s worth pointing out that the X account tied to this website claims to be based in Nevada.
Why the anonymity? Cowardice is one obvious answer. Another is that these kinds of rage campaigns are, at core, moneymaking operations. There is always an ask somewhere, a Buy Me a Coffee link or about a hundred different cryptocurrencies you can utilize to pay these guys for the hard work of manufacturing outrage.
Even MAGA agitators who only appear to be attached to the project the way a tick burrows into skin are trying to get a piece. One of the most energetic promoters of the original doxxing site, who actually got someone to travel to residence of one of the doxxed individuals, took a moment to ask for tips. (I’ve redacted his name.)
They like cryptocurrency. A lot. The same individual who invites you to “buy me a coffee” for the blood, sweat, and tears expended in composing tweets like, “They're NOT people. Libtards are soulless meatsacks who were able to imitate human behavior long enough to fool the rest of us. Charlie Kirk's assassination exposed them to the world” also helpfully provides a list of eleven different cryptocurrencies he accepts. He also writes fiction and poetry, ya’ll.
I’m coming on my sixth month of cosplaying as a MAGA warrior on X. I’ve done things like this before in service to my fiction. Standing directly in the shoes of someone to whom I cannot, at present, relate has allowed me to understand perspectives better than any research I can do.
In this case, I’ve engaged in this participatory experiment because I wanted to get a better understanding of how the right-wing social media influencers interact with the most rabid Trump supporters, most of whom are active on X and Truth Social, in order to keep them engaged.
In short: they know they must manufacture continual outrage to a.) make money and b.) keep Trump’s base of support from crumbling entirely (and in that order, by the way). It appears they work in concert and that they take talking points directly from the administration, often not even bothering to alter the wording of their posts or even space them out so they don’t all appear at the same time.
That’s their level of respect for the MAGA voter.
I’ve got a couple of posts coming that focus specifically on that aspect of our current discourse, but one thing that has been made crystal clear in the aftermath of Kirk’s murder: for all the foam-flecked diatribes about alpha-ness and strength, the people behind these doxxing campaigns are deeply ordinary cowards. They’ll send angry strangers to a schoolteacher’s door, but won’t put their own names on a website. They’ll crow about honoring Charlie Kirk’s “legacy,” but route donations through eleven different cryptocurrencies, and none of that money will ever reach Charlie Kirk’s widow and children.
It doesn’t matter that the Charlie’s Murderers website appears to have collapsed under legal threats, or that the rebrand fizzled out just as quickly. Another site will appear run anonymously by another “patriot” with a proxy server and a crypto wallet.
The hustle is simple: exploit tragedy, monetize hate and fear, and then disappear when the heat comes. MAGA supporters who have been intentionally and continually provoked to hate non-MAGA Americans, and to nurse their long-held grievances even though they won the election, are an irresistible mark.
The outrage is a grift. It always has been.
