5 Ways to Study the Bible

Studying the Word will give you fresh revelation from the Holy Spirit. Which, my friends, is the best feeling in the world! I am all for devotional books and other Christian paperbacks to help you grow in certain subjects and in Jesus (hello, I am writing a book). However, there is nothing like studying the Word of God where it’s just you, Jesus, your Bible, and some Bible tools (and maybe a little coffee). Instead of gleaning revelation from someone else, you are the one to obtain it! It’s like buying a pumpkin pie from the store versus a homemade pie. We can all appreciate store-bought pies, just like a Christian devotional or book. However, there is something special, unique, and set apart with the homemade pies, just like your personal time studying the Bible.

This is a tool that will give you the underlying Hebrew or Greek word behind the English translation. Why is it important to know the Hebrew or Greek meaning of a word? Good question.

Primarily, the Old Testament was written in Hebrew and the New Testament was written in Greek. When the Bible was translated, our English language did not have direct word matching for the Hebrew or Greek words. So sometimes when we read a word in English from our Bibles, we are not getting the “whole picture.” Looking at the underlying Hebrew or Greek word behind the English translation can give us more detail on what is going on in the verse we are studying.

Power: There are a few different Greek definitions of the word, power in the New Testament. Here are two:

In Matthew 6:13, the Greek word power, is dynamis. (Click dynamis for definition)
