We recently transitioned our son’s room from a nursery to a “big boy” room, and by that I mean we upgraded him to an actual twin-sized bed. (For a look back here’s how we started!) It’s been the sweetest thing watching him take such ownership over his space and how much he loves it. I’m so happy he’s taken to the change with such an open heart, but it makes mine ache just the tiniest bit that he’s not, well, tiny any longer!
Parenting is such a wild ride. Just when you think you may have a handle on things, there’s a big change right around the corner, but let me tell you… it truly does keep getting better and better. And even though I’m nostalgic for the crib days, I wouldn’t change a thing about where we are right now. It’s actual magic! Absolutely nothing is better than all of us piled in his bed at night reading books. SO. MUCH. FUN.
But true to form, I wanted to make his first night in his new bed a big deal and extra special in hopes that it would actually keep him in the bed overnight. Fingers crossed, it seems to be working so far! On the first big night we gave him a new pair of pajamas, a new book, and a new stuffed animal to keep him company. He was THRILLED. He hugged his crib goodbye and that was it. Honestly, none of us have looked back.
The bed was the first thing I sourced. I knew I wanted a daybed and had a general idea of gingham somewhere in his room, so when I stumbled on this bed (from Amazon!!!) it literally checked all of the boxes. We did have to put it together, but it was fairly straightforward. And bonus! We use the under-bed trundle to stash all his Legos, and he LOVES that it’s a secret hideaway for them and that his sister has no idea it’s there. Such a great mom organization hack.
Once we nailed down the bed, I dove straight into linens. I wanted his bed to feel cozy and little boy but also handsome. And I love a good pattern play, so once I started mixing I couldn’t be stopped! Ryan found these truck sheets and I found these windowpane sheets, and we ordered both so we’d have backups. Then came this quilt, something to tie in the color of his room, and then I found this duvet cover on Amazon with matching shams. I threw in his custom name pillow from Etsy and it’s perfect. Oh! And don’t forget the bumper! That thing has been a lifesaver (literally, ha!).
Cozy, handsome, and still very much little boy. We’re still working on the rest of his room, so I thought I’d share a bit more inspiration for the full vibe, but hey, the bed is a great starting point! Here’s my Pinterest board inspo for where we are hopefully headed. Wish me luck!
Anyways, so cute, right?! I’m excited with how it’s coming together!
