I’m very excited to host my colleague Professor of American Studies and Political Science at Yale and author of the What’s Going On? Substack. Dan’s work focuses on the changing landscape of American politics, democracy, and political identity. Dan and his students have been studying the rise of the multiracial right and has spent years doing on-the-ground field reporting inside conservative and right-wing spaces—including Turning Point USA, CPAC , Moms for Liberty, Trump rallies, and other political gatherings (God bless them) —to understand how these movements are evolving from the inside. He has some reaaaallly interesting stories about the motivations of the (surprisingly diverse) people who are attracted to MAGA, and he’ll tell us what he’s found! Some of his stories and observations might surprise you — and will offer a better understanding of why the path to deMAGAfication might be more complicated than we realize. I hope you will join us!
