Koby speaks about why he does not make work for the algorithm, why art is spiritual to him, and why artists need to build beyond visibility by nurturing real relationships, doing the groundwork offline and staying rooted in what they actually want to say.
The conversation also connects directly to Koby’s latest solo exhibition, Terroir, which is open this weekend at Sarabande Foundation by Lee Alexander McQueen.
Terroir explores the politics of land, inheritance and memory, looking at histories of ownership, produce and colonial exchange. In the episode, Koby speaks about Ghana, cocoa, land, colonial history, his mother, his grandmother, Street Fighter and how personal memory can live inside a body of work.
