Among the twelve monumental figures surrounding the central Genesis scenes, five Sibyls are present: the Delphic, Libyan, Cumaean, Persian, and Erythraean Sibyls. They alternate with seven Old Testament prophets along the sides of the vault. Michelangelo assigns them the same scale, visual prominence, and architectural importance.
