Kylie Harber · Artist Diaries

My dear creative friend,

Welcome to Artist Diary #3, where I share the real time highs and lows of being a full time professional artist. This one is vulnerable, hence - a paid section.

Today I’m writing to you from the hills of Maleny, in the Sunshine Coast hinterland :)

We left home at 6am and arrived at 7.40am and I had my breakfast (a cacao blueberry smoothie + pb on toast) sitting right here in this chair overlooking the fog rolling through the valley. I listened to the morning birdsong and watched two kookaburras perched in the silky oak tree right beside the cabin (where my art hangs inside)!

I cried happy tears, my body filled with gratitude.

When days like this happen, I am overcome with emotion. I used to sit in a bland, open plan office, away from the window and natural light, at my desk - wondering how the hell I would escape and spend my days with camera in hand - capturing beauty, travelling, drawing and painting.

This is the life I dreamt of for so many years.

We are here for 5 days, and I really need this time to switch off. You’ll read why below.

Here’s an update on my month of September - what’s worked, what didn’t and a personal story/life update.
