Rosa Bonheur was an independent spirit in every sense of the term.
As an unruly child, she was apparently expelled from school on numerous occasions for her bad behaviour. And it was a similar fate when she was taken on as an apprentice seamstress at 12 years old. . . with the young girl already entirely convinced that her destiny was to be an artist.
