A Hanukkah tale…
When my son was little, I decided to celebrate Hanukkah, but I had no menorah. So we stuck candles on a piece of wood…voila, instant menorah! In the years that followed, we still neglected to buy a menorah and instead made our own whimsical ones. Here are a few of my favorites from years past:
The Andy Warhol Menorah:
The Waffle Menorah:
The Radio Menorah:
Vaccinorah (Pandemic Edition):
And of course the Bananorah:
The inevitable sacrilegious SPAMorah:
And then something amazing happened…
My friend Lazarito told me he had received a “message” that he was supposed to give someone a gift. And that someone was me. He did not know about our tradition of creative menorahs, but the thought came to him that he needed to buy me a menorah!
Here is the moment he presented me with the menorah:
And below is the glorious menorah that ended the mischievous menorah tradition: Actually, I was running out of ideas for creative menorahs, so now we have our very own genuine menorah:

Book update…
Amos invited me to share my book at his curbside shop. It was so cold, I only lasted 2 hours, but it was fun hanging out and watching him interact with customers and fans.
My watchword for book promotion is “share” instead of “sell” - I’m much more comfortable with that. I am getting many wonderful, heart-warming comments and reviews, which makes me feel it was worth all the work and angst.
If you’d like to help boost my visibility on Amazon you can leave a review here:
And if you haven’t read the book yet, you can buy it on my website or order it at any independent bookstore.
Hanukkah Song…
“I’m Spending Hanukkah in Santa Monica” by Tom Lehrer, genius satirist, who died this year. In 2020, Lehrer transferred all his songs into the public domain.
In short, I no longer retain any rights to any of my songs. So help yourselves, and don’t send me any money. — Tom Lehrer
As Always, Carry on Bravely…I’m feeling some hope for 2026.

LYRICS: I’m spending Hanukkah in Santa Monica
I’m spending Hanukkah
In Santa Monica
Wearing sandals
Lighting candles
By the sea
I spent Shevuos
In East St. Louis
A charming spot
But clearly not
The spot for me
Those Eastern winters
I can’t endure ‘em
So ev’ry year
I pack my gear
And come out here
‘Til Purim
Rosh Hashonah
I spend in Arizonah
And Yo Kippuh
Way down in Mississippuh
But in December there’s just one place for me
Amid the California flora
I’ll be lighting my menorah
Like a baby in his cradle
I’ll be playing with my dreidel
Here’s to Judas Maccabeus
Boy, if he could only see us
Spending Hanukkah
In Santa Monica
By the sea
