Honeymoons and Twilight Zones

Hello from sunny San Diego! As you are reading this I am probably setting up both my personal table and the National Cartoonists Society booth in the San Diego Convention Center... I’m also probably sweating profusely because they don’t turn the AC on in this place until the just before the show opens. You’ll find me at table I-08 in aisle 1000, and the NCS at booth number 1307.

I’m debuting two new prints at SDCC this year, both based on previous “Sketch o’the Week” drawing, and both old school. “The Honeymooners” you see above, and here’s Rod Serling from “The Twilight Zone”:

These are also available to order from the Studio Store starting today, although it will be next week before I ship out any orders as SDCC runs though Sunday. Me, my sore ass, and my abused liver won’t be back in the studio until Tuesday morning.

MAD About Podcasts

I’ve been a guest on a fair number of podcasts over the years, but this week I was interviewed on one that is very unique in both approach and format.

Chris Johnson’s Passion Podcast is truly a horse of a different color. He’s done hundreds of episodes that focus not on a specific industry or interest, but rather on people who do something they love and are passionate about for a living. That includes musicians, athletes, artists, and other creative types. He talks with them about their life journey, what drives them and what brings them both joy and pain. What is really different is he doesn’t do it via a remote video link, but actually travels to wherever his guest is located and does the interview live and face to face. His portable studio is state of the art, and the results are as professional as they are riveting.

Chris came to my studio and interviewed me for an episode that just dropped on Monday. If you follow me on social media you’ve already seen the promos for this on my various socials, but if you haven’t see the episode it’s a lot of fun and very different from the usual podcast fare. It’s San Diego Comic Con time again! The mack daddy of them all starts with “Preview Night” tonight at 6 pm West Coast Time, and the full convention officially starts tomorrow, Thursday July 23rd, at 10 am.

I’ll be doing something a little different this year at SDCC. I’m going to post several Substack “notes” over the course of the con with some video and photo reporting from my booth and the convention floor. It will be a busy week for my ‘Stack!
