Arnold Garson · FORGOTTEN HISTORY with Arnold Garson

COMING to SUBSTACK JUNE 25: Part 1 of a new, broad-sweeping and fast-moving history of America that is likely different from anything you’ve seen before.

Each part will cover a 50-year timeframe and will be no longer than a typical Substack newsletter.

This is not the history you dread reading because it is long, slow-moving, and includes endless details in which you aren’t really interested. This history is selective, focusing on the major developments in each 50-year timeframe that significantly influenced the future.

There also will be some nuggets of just interesting things and hopefully a few surprises, things you didn’t know about our nation’s history.

I researched and wrote this history because I love history, but also because I have read a lot of histories that leave me thinking, c’mon, just get to the point. The idea that attracted me the most, however, was packaging it in an easy-to-digest way.

My goal was to produce a history readers would find interesting as well as informative, but also a quick read.

The first installment of the series will appear on June 25 as my Substack newsletter, Arnold Garson: Second Thoughts, with a subsequent installment every two days through its conclusion on July 3.

Happy 250th anniversary to America, and happy reading to all of you. If you like it, let me know, and be sure to share. If not, well, happy Independence Day anyway. Maybe my next newsletter will capture your interest. You never know what I may write next.

Arnold Garson, Second Thoughts is part of the Iowa Writers’ Collaborative, which represents more than 60 professional writers with Iowa roots. My goal today was to provide an enjoyable, informative, or worthwhile reading experience – ideally, two or three of these things. Although my subject matter is widely varied in an increasingly specialized Substack world, I hope you may view this diversity as an added value that promotes thought about a wide range of issues. But I digress. This newsletter is free. Which makes me all the more appreciative of those who choose to contribute. I am deeply grateful for such entirely voluntary financial support. In response, I will contribute net proceeds to nonprofit organizations that promote freedom of speech or cover local news in the Midwest. As a paid subscriber, you are thus encouraging me to continue writing so that both of us may effect some overall good for our society. Best wishes and happy reading.
