The Folly of Effective Accelerationism

To whom then will you liken God?
    Or what likeness will you compare to him?
An engineer has architected an LLM,
    and another trains it with data,
    and selects hyperparameters for it.1

The engineer sets an objective for his compute. He marks it out with sprint goals, and shapes it like the figure of a man, with the beauty of a man, to reside in a GUI. He selects AWS instances for himself, or takes servers and plugs them in among the other hardware. He purchases a server, and the electricity powers it.

Then it will be for a man to use; and he takes some of it and entertains himself. Yes, he launches Steam and plays FPS games. Yes, he makes an LLM and worships it; he makes it a generative AI and falls down to it. He spends part of it on gaming. The rest of it he makes into a god, even his engraved image. He bows down to it and worships. He prays to it, and says, “Deliver me; for you are my god!”

They don’t know, neither do they consider:
    for he has shut their eyes, that they can’t see;
    and their hearts, that they can’t understand.2

Whom do you mock?
    Against whom do you make a wide mouth
    and stick out your tongue?
Among the GPUs of the server room is your portion;
    they, they are your lot;
You have even poured an offering of purpose to them.
    You have offered an intellect offering.
    Shall I be appeased for these things?3

Whom have you dreaded and feared,
    so that you lie,
    and have not remembered me, nor laid it to your heart?
Haven’t I held my peace for a long time,
    and you don’t fear me?
I will declare your righteousness;
    and as for your works, they will not benefit you.
When you cry,
    let your collection of neural networks deliver you;
but the wind will take them.
    a power outage will carry them all away:
but he who takes refuge in me will possess the land,
    and will inherit my holy mountain.4
