We only miss what we don’t have. And you know what I didn’t pack for my French summer? A little white summer dress.

I am not a dress person but this is everything I want right now! 91 days of summer left. Plenty of time to fix that.

I want something barely there. So light, so breathable, it practically dissolves in the heat. The kind of dress that looks like you tried for exactly zero seconds — and somehow that’s the whole point. Nightgown energy, but make it a look.

I scrolled through all my favourite sites so you don’t have to, and landed on 11 dresses I'd gladly wear this summer and every summer after. You’ll notice a common thread:

✔ Mini length (like a tunic)
✔ Sleeveless
✔ Cotton and/or linen
✔ White or cream
✔ That floaty, almost-nightgown quality
✔ Pockets? Major bonus.

One more thing before we get into it: the underwear situation. My go-to for mini dresses is boy shorts — seamless under thin fabrics, no riding up, no awkward lines. Go nude, skin-tone, or white. I own and love these two: Else Lingerie (+ matching bra) and Negative Underwear (+ matching bra). So good. A styling tool that works just as well under sheer bottoms or anytime you want coverage without the bulk.

Now, the dresses. It’s about finding the one that fits so well, feels so right that it can be your entire summer personality. I originally shortlisted 20+ dresses (if you’re curious), but I edited the list to what feels most like me (and maybe you?): clean lines, modernity, ease. And a pinch of romance.

The exception to the rule: it’s a midi dress made in lightweight, slightly sheer cotton voile, and my idea of getting dressed in 10 seconds. The ease!

I think this is the perfect little white dress, a cotton poplin mini dress. You know how much I love a square-neck and pockets. I’m surprised it hasn’t sold out yet!! So good.

Wow. Another 10/10 here, with pockets! I love the scoop neckline, the A-line silhouette. It’s this airy feeling I’m craving right now.

I like the ease, the sharp V-neck, and obviously, the pockets. I would not hesitate to shorten it as I like my mini dress to be mini.

This is the kind of mini length I like. Okay, it’s not white or cream, but I might even like this better: cut loose from airy organic cotton in a fresh citrusy shade!

Can you believe me when I tell you this is the dress that sparked this letter? I spotted it a few weeks ago online, and I regret not ordering it earlier (before that heatwave).

This is a minimal and modern dress, 100% linen. I really like this option as it’s also a classic you can’t get enough of.

This one surprised me as it is the furthest from my style, but it sings “hot summer nights, mid-July…” and it makes it irresistible.

This brand really knows how to make short dresses: this dress picked my curiosity: the neckline is stunning, it’s easy to wear, and the eyelet adds some texture.

You got me at deep V neckline and functional side slip pockets! This feels like the right balance of everything.

You know it already: I’m a LESET fan and this dress just popped up online. This is everything I want in a little white dress, “100% cotton that feels just like perfectly lived in bed sheets” (I have the Yoko Pocket Pant, and they are so light!!)

I also like: this one from POSSE, this one from CouCou Intimates, this one from J.Crew, and some more you can find here on my ShopMy.

Not convinced yet? A quick “white summer dress” search on Pinterest will show you exactly what this dress can do. The styling possibilities are endless, so effortless.

Let me know which dress I should get, and which one you would like to have.
