Leadership doesn’t come with a manual or handbook with tools to help you succeed in your career. Like many of us, we learn as we breath, we learn from others, and by trial and error. The one area rarely discussed is how humor can shape and provide leadership lessons.
This week I was fortunate to present my talk on A Good Laugh: Leadership Lessons Hidden in Everyday Stories at a (duh!) leadership conference. The audience was made up of fellow nonprofit and association colleagues, and the takeaways I shared focused on practical leadership insights drawn from everyday experiences:
1. Leadership isn’t always about having the right words — it’s about learning how to find them.
2. Humor builds camaraderie and strengthens communication.
3. Laughter builds trust and strengthens relationships.
The best part? My daughter got to join me and hear me present (.. and not about music!) for the first time.
