Spotify is testing a “Skip ahead” button that appears during podcast ads and sponsorship messages, encouraging listeners to bypass them, including ads Spotify has sold itself, and creators’ own pitches for premium subscriptions.
Given Spotify’s dominant share of podcast downloads in many markets, the move raises real questions for creators who monetize through Spotify-served ads or in-episode subscription asks. Separate Edison Research data shows Spotify leads the US podcast market by reach, though that figure may not capture how many listeners are actually hearing the ads once the skip tool rolls out further.

The company says its Branded AI Voice deals are up 167% year-over-year, with early adopter SuperBloom already using the model to extend a campaign voice into multiple languages.

Poetry Africa, Durban’s flagship poetry festival, now in its 30th year, has announced its 2026 guest lineup, bringing together voices from across the continent and beyond.
This edition is a big one: it runs alongside the 5th World Slam Poetry Competition (40 poets, 40 countries) and lands in the year marking 50 years since the 1976 Soweto Youth Uprising, a resonance the festival’s curator has spoken to directly. Festival dates: 5–10 October 2026, Durban.
