Aké Arts and Book Festival, widely regarded as the African continent’s biggest annual gathering of literary writers, editors, critics and readers, is returning to Lagos for its 14th edition.
This year’s edition carries the theme “Native Intelligence,” examining how AI is reshaping storytelling and truth-telling across the continent alongside enduring, community-rooted ways of knowing, a strong draw for the writers, editors and storytellers in our network.

The Afrotellers Conference 2026 convenes 200+ storytellers, activists, researchers, media practitioners, policymakers and cultural leaders from across Afrika and the diaspora in Mombasa, Kenya, 28–31 October 2026.
The programme spans policy and practice dialogues with national government, East African Community and African Union actors; a first-ever academic paper track alongside a curated storytelling exhibition and screening programme; and three structured sub-themes — AI and algorithmic colonialism, policy-practice dialogue, and the cultural economy of Afrikan narratives.
