I [Fabien Cottier] am recruiting two postdoctoral researchers and one doctoral researcher to join my new research group at the IDEC Institute at Hiroshima University in Japan, starting September 2026.
My research group's research focuses on issues at the intersection of environmental change, land, migration and political violence, with an emphasis on rigorous quantitative research designs combining survey, census, administrative, and/or remote-sensing data.
The positions are funded through the Japanese Government's EXPERT-J program (JST), which offers internationally competitive conditions, including generous support for research and travels.
Appointments are for two years with the program support ending on 30 September 2028. Applicants should have recently obtained a Master's degree (for the PhD position) or a PhD (for the Postdoc positions) in Political science, social sciences or economics, environmental sciences, or a similar field, and demonstrated proficiency in quantitative methods.
Eligibility: under EXPERT-J rules, candidates must be affiliated with an institution outside Japan immediately prior to appointment (Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, India, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Republic of Korea (South Korea), Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States, and ASEAN countries).
