Common wrong take. BART's Transbay Tube carries 100k passengers per day and the Bay Bridge carries 270k vehicles per day. You need less than one bridge's worth added capacity. Obviously possible. Surface streets work too with modifications for autonomous traffic, parking removed.
if everyone who takes public transit took Waymo instead we'd have traffic that makes Mumbai roads look empty. i don't really get why basic geometry is so hard for so many people to grasp
