John was never exactly a fashionista.

Michael doesn't want to try on his school clothes.
Elly says she wants him to look nice for school. If he looks like a slob, people will think he is a slob.
Elly says, "The clothes make the man!"
They pass by John who's watering the lawn in a Hawaiian shirt, a ratty old fishing hat, and checkered cut-off shorts. John wants to know what Michael is laughing at.

We've all been here! Do you have any tips on getting kids to eat their veggies?

Elly negotiates with Michael to eat his vegetables.
She asks him to just eat a few carrots.
Finally she says, "If you can't eat, you can't eat." Then she takes his plate away.
He loudly asks, "What about dessert?"
