Net New
By design we are experience-seeking animals.
Outside of our rhythmic habits, a philosophy which drives me is seeking the net new.
It assumes we are building on top of a foundation of what we have already built but looking to add new experiences, activities, skills and results that cumulatively add to our experience on this earth.
Net new also refers to something which is original outside of our existing framework. Asking the question, what is net new, allows us to get better and build on the foundation of what we have already done, while enabling surprise and new experiences.
Net new also means completion. It isn’t enough to try something new, its important to complete it, to experience it in a way where there is a beginning, middle and an end. In writing, that means not only having an idea but publishing the idea, sharing it, completing it and discussing it. If its an aspiration it means going from vision to activity to result. If its an exploration, it means starting, experiencing it and coming back to tell the tale.
The net new builds upon paying attention to things that surprise you.
