Change history (partial):

  1. 1879-10-15: Law passed authorizing the creation of communes in French Guiana. The first communes included �le-de-Cayenne et Tour de l'�le, R�mire, Roura, and Tonn�grande-Montsin�ry.
  2. 1891-02-25: Name of Tour de l'�le commune changed to Matoury.
  3. 1968: Maripasouli commune created.
  4. 1969-03-17: Approuague commune merged with R�gina; La Comte commune merged with Roura; Moyenne Mana commune merged with Mana; Samson commune merged with Saül; Grand-Santi-Papa�chton commune created.
  5. 1976-11-12: Apatou commune split from Grand-Santi-Papa�chton.
  6. 1988-12-31: Awala-Yalimapo commune split, probably from Mana. The date 1989-04-16 is also given.
  7. 1992: Grand-Santi-Papa�chton commune split into Grand-Santi and Papa�chton.
