Information and communication technologies in Macedonia have experienced a phenomenal growth throughout the last decades, which has had a tremendous impact on governmental services’ presence in the Internet, as well as on everyday life. Against this background, technologies-based growth introduces new risks and threats to the cyber domain in the country. To respond to those challenges the Macedonian government is pursing the establishment of a national authority to react to cyber attacks that occur, or a Computer Incident Response Team – MKD-CIRT, and the adoption of a National Cybersecurity Strategy. However, it should be taken into account that such tasks are neither easy nor simple. There are several issues that should be considered, for instance: the improvement of the measures for protection of information systems and of the critical infrastructure; the legal and policy framework; the international approach; and the formation of a cybersecurity culture, to name but a few. Simultaneously, considering that Macedonia is a candidate for accession to the EU and NATO, it has to comply with their standards when performing the reforms in the cybersecurity field. The current article briefly introduces the country’s steps towards cybersecurity, provides an analysis of the legal, policy and institutional progress achieved, and suggests recommendations that should be considered to ensure safer, secure, trustworthy and resilient cyber space in the country.

Currently, humans coupled with the socio-technical aspect can be either the strongest or the weakest link in any information security, and the key in security lies in delivering awareness training through short and effective online videos, whereby the participator can gain knowledge on security. Our aim, therefore, is to develop innovative solutions to deliver an interactive cybersecurity awareness program, where the main goal is to enhance information on security awareness and knowledge in organizations, schools, nations, homes etc. The syllabus that we present consists of a unique systematic approach divided into three target groups: basic, advance and management. Also we present a different method in measuring the knowledge of each participant, and compare it to the base-line survey carried out during the registration. Our results show the participant’s awareness level of knowledge. By implementing this program in private and public organizations, governments, schools and universities will lead to the improvement of IT security awareness levels in the everyday use of computers, mobile phones, online banking, and social networking - both at home and in the workplace.

  • FREQUENTLY-OCCURRING SECURITY INCIDENTS

The 10th Conference for Informatics and Information Technology (CIIT 2013)

    ABSTRACT
Risk Assessment is a common part of Risk Management, also, traditionally the focus has always been on the evaluation of the risk in organizations through probability, rather than by the frequency of security incident occurrence. The aim of our work was to further develop the knowledge of risk impact by frequency of any given security incident occurrence.

The syllabus is organized into a systematic approach of three important groups: 1. The introduction is “Basic”, which aims at delivering to everyone an elementary curriculum course for physical security, computer and mobile security and network and Internet security. 2. The “Advance” program primarily demonstrates the attacking phases, different attacking methods, followed by countermeasures that show the anatomy of Advance Persistence Threats. And it is intended for administrators, help desk personnel, information technology professionals and so forth. 3. The last course “Management”, illustrates two decision making processes with their cycle loop. We believe that importance of interactive cyber security program could be implemented effectively in private, public organizations, military, nations, schools and campuses, without a significant degradation in performance.
