Such a great article that resonates a lot with our discussions at In Parallel the past couple of weeks. I actually think we’re intuitively discovered many of these same questions while constantly adapting to the evolving landscape that is AI. Which leads to a new question, and in a way back to the very roots of design and creativity: what if there is no one single process or ”best practice” anymore? When everything is new every time, what you get to do is the best practice until its not, again. And let’s be fair: majority of design processes and practices for digital products and services have been tools for thinking, strategizing, alignment and communication anyway. Unless you’re in the business of industrial manufacturing (think cars, lean, IT systems etc) the way work works rarely follows any given preset. Creativity has always wanted freedom from the boundaries of past and now with our emerging toolset we can literally have the cake and eat it — diverge and explore by any means necessary, be it code, thinking, sketch or Figma — and our tools have the power to converge the work. This means there rhythm of work becomes organic and not bound to a diamond or any other shape. And what matters more is the human side of it: decisions, alignment and agreement on what is great for us. So… if this is the cambrian explosion for creativity and digital products, do we need a new taxonomy for the fauna that is about to emerge?
