• Simplifying the Chinese Writing System (CS Senior Thesis)

  - Creating a custom clustering algorithm to group characters into semantic categories, after testing many existing algorithms and learning their strengths and weaknesses.

  - Created an online database of over 100,000 novel mountain measurements, with data visualizations. Calculations are made in Google Earth Engine (JavaScript); website is made with React and SQL.
  - The website has aided with trip planning, introduced people to new natural scenery, and fostered a greater appreciation for mountains. Featured on Wikipedia and Mercury News.

• Yale MealMatch (Campus Friend-Making Platform)

  Sep 2022 - May 2023

  - Co-led a team of students in Yale Computer Society to create an online platform to pair Yale students for mealtime meetups based on personal compatibility.
  - Developed an algorithm that matches students based on their bios and compatibilities, using word embeddings and optimization techniques.

  - Creating a new climate classification that is better aligned with biome boundaries, for assessing climate change impacts on ecosystems. Advised by Prof. William Lauenroth.
  - Developed a mathematical framework for evaluating geospatial classifier performance, providing a modern data-driven solution to a longstanding problem.
