This commitment extends beyond technological innovation. By open-sourcing uAI Nexus MedVLM, releasing the MedVidBench benchmark, and launching a public leaderboard, UII is helping accelerate progress in medical video understanding across the global research community. 🔹 Systems: Delivering AI at the Point of Care AI creates value when embedded into real-world clinical workflows. Can AI identify signs of up to 74 neurological conditions from a single brain MRI scan ? Can a simple cognitive test on a smartphone help identify early signs of Alzheimer's disease? These are not distant predictions about the future. These are examples of AI applications already being developed and implemented in healthcare. During WAIC - World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai, I had the opportunity to speak with CGTN about the transformation taking place in medical imaging and healthcare. As a radiologist from Poland, I was deeply impressed not only by the technology itself, but by the scale and speed at which AI is being translated into real clinical practice. China is one of the most powerful examples of this transformation. At STERMED, we are already using Chinese medical imaging equipment and AI solutions in everyday clinical practice. And what I saw at #WAIC made one thing very clear: The future of AI in healthcare is not coming. It is already here. But technology is only one part of the equation. We also need education. We need new skills. We need international collaboration. And we need to prepare the next generation of healthcare professionals to work alongside AI. #WAIC2026 | The AI-Agent Hospital: Concepts, Initial Lessons, and Future As AI moves from standalone tools to intelligent agents, hospitals face a bigger question than simply adopting the technology: How will AI reshape the way hospitals are built? At the UII Forum during #WAIC2026, Prof. Tien Yin Wong 黄天荫, Vice-Provost of Tsinghua University and Fellow of the Royal Society, shared Tsinghua's answer through its vision for the AI-Agent Hospital. 💡 Key Takeaways 🏛️ Medicine Has Entered Its Third Era Medicine has evolved from care delivered by individual physicians, to multidisciplinary care teams, and now to physicians working alongside AI as an integral part of clinical practice. 🌍 AI Creates the Greatest Value Where Care Is Hardest to Deliver Prof. Wong argues that AI's greatest impact will come from strengthening primary care, expanding access, and helping healthcare systems meet rising demand at scale. 🏥 The AI-Agent Hospital: Redesigning AI Around Healthcare Instead of building AI products first, Prof. Wong proposes the reverse: clinical needs ➡️ real-world data ➡️ digital infrastructure ➡️ AI products. The result is the AI-Agent Hospital: an AI-native platform built on real-world clinical data, where every physician is paired with a specialized AI agent that carries their clinical expertise forward. #WAIC2026 | Dr. Marcin Sternicki: Building Bridges for Clinical AI What does it take for a radiologist to go from cautiously exploring AI to becoming one of Europe's leading advocates for its clinical adoption? At the UII Forum during #WAIC2026, Dr. Marcin Sternicki shared a journey built on trust. 🌏 Where the Journey Began Dr. Marcin first visited China in 1990. What began as a memorable journey eventually grew into a long-term partnership with United Imaging. After introducing United Imaging's medical equipment at STERMED Medical Center in 2019, he discovered the company's extensive AI portfolio, which opened the door to a new chapter in his clinical practice. 💡 The Moment AI Earned His Trust UII's mammography AI detected subtle microcalcifications that could easily have been overlooked and classified a lesion as BI-RADS 4B. MRI and biopsy confirmed early-stage breast cancer, enabling timely treatment and an excellent prognosis. Dr. Marcin remarked, "I know uAI can save lives." That experience transformed curiosity into conviction. Today, AI is an integral part of Dr. Marcin's daily practice, supporting a wide range of clinical scenarios while improving workflow efficiency, diagnostic confidence, and patient care. As he emphasized at WAIC, AI is not here to replace radiologists. Instead, it enables them to focus on what only humans can provide: judgment, empathy, and responsibility. 🚀 From Clinical Adoption to European Impact With years of experience integrating AI into routine practice, Dr. Marcin's mission has expanded beyond his own clinic. This year, together with UII, he organized THE Radiology Conference and the AI Live Challenge, giving clinicians across Europe the opportunity to experience AI on real clinical cases and build confidence in its value. #WAIC2026 UII Forum | What Happens When a Physician Gets an AI Partner? At the UII Satellite Forum during #WAIC2026, together with Yunfan Sun, MD PhD, a hepatobilliary attending surgeon at ZhongShan Hospital, Fudan University, UII demonstrated an AI-assisted inpatient bedside rounds workflow for a liver cancer patient through an immersive mixed reality (MR) experience. Wearing an MR headset, Dr. Sun was immersed in a virtual clinical workspace, while a large screen simultaneously mirrored exactly what he saw through the headset in real time. 👨⚕️ Physician + AI Agents, Working Side by Side Throughout the demonstration, Dr. Sun interacted with uAI as naturally as he would with a colleague. 🔹 Inpatient Bedside Rounds uAI instantly prioritized patients, summarized their clinical status, and flagged those requiring immediate attention based on the severity and urgency of their condition. 🔹 AI Agent-Based Case Presentation Through natural voice interaction, an AI medical agent acted as a virtual resident, consolidating the patient's laboratory results, imaging studies, and clinical records from multiple systems into a unified view. It highlighted abnormal findings and tracking longitudinal trends while presenting the case to Dr. Sun in real time. 🔹 Treatment Planning uAI specialized AI agents analyzed the patient's records and imaging data to recommend surgical strategies that balanced complete cancer resection, preservation of liver function, and procedural safety. It also generated an interactive 3D anatomical model, enabling Dr. Sun to simulate and optimize the surgical procedure. 🔹 Postoperative Care uAI continuously monitored recovery by integrating real-time vital signs, laboratory trends, and postoperative indicators, enabling Dr. Sun to assess the patient's progress at a glance. Dr. Sun likened the experience to Iron Man and J.A.R.V.I.S. Just as J.A.R.V.I.S. equips Iron Man with instant access to intelligence and strategic guidance, uAI serves as an intelligent clinical partner, integrating fragmented information, anticipating physicians' needs, and helping them make faster, better-informed decisions. In Dr. Sun's words, this is what a "Super Physician" should look like: a human physician empowered by AI agents, embodied AI systems, and other advanced technologies to deliver more intelligent, efficient, and personalized care. The demonstration offered a glimpse of UII's vision for the Digitelligent Hospital. As embodied AI systems, intelligent wearables, and medical agents continue to evolve and work together, the way healthcare is organized, delivered and experienced will be fundamentally transformed. The Digitelligent Hospital will bridge care across hospital and community settings, while seamlessly connecting digital and physical healthcare services. By extending the capabilities of clinicians and healthcare institutions, it will expand the reach, capacity, and impact of the traditional hospital model.
