Cropland Data Layer with Fields of the World viewer, on Source Cooperative A marimo notebook that visualizes the USDA Cropland Data Layer and Fields of the World directly from Source Coop. The CDL Icechunk store runs 2008 through 2025, with 2024 and 2025 at 10 m; those are the two years FTW's field boundaries cover. The map reads the Zarr from both datasets (CDL for the crop classes, FTW's P(field) as the mask) and FTW's PMTiles to draw the boundaries. The video shows toggling between years, masking to crops only, and masking to crops inside the model-delineated field boundaries. A button shows the disagreement between the FTW boundaries and the CDL: where one says field and the other doesn't. Streaming both datasets into one notebook means you can combine them for analysis: who's growing what, and where the field boundaries say so. Link to the repo in the comments.

The Open data in GeoLibre Chrome extension is now published on the Chrome Web Store. Install it with a single click: https://lnkd.in/e255CDm2 It scans the webpage you are viewing, finds supported geospatial datasets, and lets you choose multiple files to open together in GeoLibre. Click the GeoLibre icon, filter the results by vector or raster, select the datasets you want, and open them on one map. The extension recognizes: - GeoJSON and spatial JSON - GeoParquet and Parquet - PMTiles - GeoTIFF and Cloud-Optimized GeoTIFF - ZIP archives containing GeoJSON - JSON-LD download metadata - Existing GeoLibre data links It also has dedicated support for Source Cooperative (https://lnkd.in/eaqtz-AY). Even when a large repository page only renders the files currently visible on screen, the extension reads the embedded inventory so you can browse all supported datasets in that directory. Try it: - Installation guide: https://lnkd.in/eR_9MeNK - Launch GeoLibre: https://web.geolibre.app - Source code: https://lnkd.in/eFpqfshw #GeoLibre #GIS #Geospatial #OpenSource #ChromeExtension

HRRR 18h (initialized every hour) is now available on dynamical.org (and everywhere you get your bytes). Similar to the 48h, it's a low-latency Icechunk Zarr with all the fixins, variables, and pressure levels.

Thee datasets used have been coverted to GeoJSON, GeoParquet, and PMTiles formats and available on source.coop

Introducing the new Natural Earth plugin for GeoLibre! World Base Map draft (Natural Earth 6.0) (https://lnkd.in/eny3AgHq) by Tom Patterson and Nathaniel Vaughn Kelso was recently released in shapefile format. I converted the datasets to GeoJSON, GeoParquet, and PMTiles formats and make them available on Source Cooperative (https://lnkd.in/e7_9hQDG). To make these datasets easy to explore and use, I also built a Natural Earth plugin for GeoLibre. Open Plugins > Web Services > Natural Earth and you can: - Add any of 35 layers instantly: land, ocean, coastlines, admin boundaries, rivers, lakes, glaciers, wetlands, urban areas, bathymetry, coral reefs, airports, railroads, and more. Click Add and it lands on the map. - Pick the format that fits your work: every layer is published four ways. PMTiles for instant vector-tile rendering, GeoParquet for analysis, GeoJSON for portability, and zipped Shapefiles for the tools that still want them. - Browse the real bucket: the file list is the live listing from Source Cooperative, not a catalog baked into the app, so what you see is always what is actually there. - Take it with you: download any layer, or copy its URL straight into DuckDB, QGIS, or a notebook. Try it out - Launch GeoLibre Web: web.geolibre.app - GitHub: https://lnkd.in/eFpqfshw - Documentation: geolibre.app - Data: https://lnkd.in/e7_9hQDG Many thanks to Tom Patterson and Nathaniel Vaughn Kelso for their decades of work on Natural Earth, and to Source Cooperative and AWS for making open geospatial data more accessible to everyone. #GIS #Geospatial #OpenSource #NaturalEarth #MapLibre #GeoLibre #OpenData

Explore the latest OpenPOIs release that is nonw available on source.coop. OpenPOIs is an open dataset for points of interest across the United States. Built from OpenStreetMap and Overture Maps Foundation, with per-POI confidence scores calibrated against a verified validation sample so they read as probabilities that a place exists and is currently open. The dataset is released under the Open Database License (ODbL) v.1.0.

Source Cooperative continues to do numbers. July is our first month serving over 3B requests and over 3PB of data (this is based on S3 log analysis). We're also at 2.9K references to our proxy endpoint on GitHub (edit: we're now at 3k on GitHub! 3B requests, 3PB transferred, 3k references!). We'll be releasing features to show usage stats for individual data products *soon*!

The Distributed Renewable Energy (DRE) Atlas is now on Source Cooperative β€” making it easier to access and process at scale. The DRE Atlas maps almost 2 million settlements across 58 countries, each enriched with 50+ multi-thematic attributes: energy demand, grid distance, solar potential, road access, socio-economic indicators, and more. Built especially, but not only, for decentralized energy access planning, which sits at the core of what VIDA does. While the data are live on the World Bank’s energydata.info portal, we’re now re-publishing on Source Cooperative for wider reach, free and open under CC BY 4.0, as country-partitioned, cloud-native GeoParquet + PMTiles with STACspec metadata, so anyone can query it directly with modern geospatial tools. Specific shoutout to our Geospatial Data Engineer Giorgio Basile! Thanks to the Cloud-Native Geospatial Forum (CNG) community for the formats and tools that make this possible. A joint effort by ESMAP - Energy Sector Management Assistance Program, IFC - International Finance Corporation, The World Bank Group, and VIDA β€” accelerating #DRE investments and #Mission300. We built this to be used, not just browsed. Whether you’re in electrification planning, energy access research, or something we haven’t thought of yet, we’d love to see what you build with it. Drop us a note or tag us. Dataset: source.coop/vida/dre-atlas Platform: dre.energydata.info #OpenData #CloudNativeGeospatial #GeoParquet #STAC #EnergyAccess #SDG7 #DecentralizedEnergy #DataForGood
