  • The Red Hatt CEO, Matt Hicks, built his first AI project because nobody in his house could hear the doorbell from the mud room. He trained a machine learning model to recognize the specific sound of his doorbell and broadcast it through Sonos, filtering out everything else, including his kids. I was genuinely amazed hearing this because it was a real problem that had a focused solution, and a lesson that still applies to how the most effective AI work gets done today. That project taught him something that still holds: it was a very hard thing to program, but it was a very easy thing to train. If you've been waiting for the perfect project idea to start learning AI, you're thinking about it wrong. ↳ Start with something that genuinely bothers you. The motivation to finish a tutorial evaporates fast. The motivation to fix something that affects your daily life does not. ↳ Constraint is the point. A model interpreting two distinct sounds is not a complex problem on purpose. Small scope forces you to actually understand what the model is doing instead of running someone else's code. ↳ Personal projects teach you things work projects can't. There's no deadline, and no stakeholder to say good enough. You have to understand it because you're the only one who can debug it. Your bar to start is lower than you think. ♻️ Repost for your network so they can stop waiting for the perfect project!

Enterprise AI has a credibility problem: executives are done funding expensive experiments without clear ROI. In this SmartTechCheck EduSeries research episode, I break down how Red Hat is "eating its own dog food" with #BusinessasCode, 540 AI projects, and a reported 3.4× preliminary return. Is this the enterprise AI proof point the market has been waiting for? 🌐 #Tecnologia #OpenSource #Inovacao #RedHat

Red Hat joins The Linux Foundation and other leading technology organizations to launch Akrites: the largest coordinated effort in history to standardize vulnerability disclosure protocols and streamline upstream threat intelligence, leveraging the collective power of the community to make everyone safer. Chris Wright, Chief Technology Officer and Senior Vice President, Global Engineering, Red Hat explains the importance: “Open source is the foundation of modern software innovation. Defending that foundation requires a coordinated, upstream community response capable of meeting threats at scale. Red Hat’s participation in Akrites focuses on strengthening this upstream ecosystem. By collaborating openly to identify and patch vulnerabilities at the source, we help build a more resilient software supply chain for the entire industry.” We all depend on open source and we defend it together.

The age of AI requires a new solution to cybersecurity challenges. Today, the Linux Foundation and industry leaders launched Akrites, a coordinated effort to defend critical open source software against AI-enabled cyber threats. Founding members of this effort include Amazon Web Services (AWS), Anthropic, Chainguard, Cisco, Citi, Endor Labs, Ericsson, Google, IBM, JPMorganChase, Microsoft, GitHub, NVIDIA, OpenAI, RAPIDFORT, Red Hat, Rust Foundation, Sonatype, Vodafone and Zscaler. Frontier AI models can now scan major software projects and surface vulnerabilities in minutes. To address this challenge, Akrites establishes a shared Security Incident Response Team (SIRT) and a standardized Coordinated Vulnerability Disclosure (CVD) process built on confidentiality-first principles. Backed by founding commitments from global technology leaders, AI labs, financial institutions, and security vendors, this initiative brings a unified, predictable partnership to upstream maintainers. Read the open letter and learn why top organizations are joining together in this critical effort https://lnkd.in/exs7y_2d and visit https://akrites.org to learn how to get involved.
