2025 - Day 1

Let’s start the year right, going in on our core message on this channel.

Screen time is light entertainment
Education belongs to the parent.

We discuss the tactics of baby media industry leader flexing their purse strings to make studies go away.

There are no studies proving the long term benefits of early learning content.

I dunno, I would consider my daughter advanced- people comment daily on how well she speaks and the amount of words she knows. Yes we do very minimal screen time and I inactive and read with her every day but I find if we skip a couple days of ms Rachel she doesn’t seem as fresh with her colors or shapes. I think ms Rachel offers a fun way to learn so to completely say she’s not educational is unfair

I just don’t want my kids having American accents 😂 For real I think parents sometimes need just 5 minutes while they get dinner ready but I can also see that some children are being sat in front of miss Rachel for way too long.

I think ms Rachel developed her show for her son with speech delay? That’s why there is a lot of exaggeration in the expressions and the words? I don’t think this is intended for all kids but people found it a better alternative (with an educational tone) to kids shows like cocomelon and others.. we haven’t had screen time before my son turned 2 years old and by then he was already too old for such content. But now he enjoys and episode of Daniel tiger every now and then

There's studies in the UK that show her videos reduced natural speech development and kids who watch her fail to develop natural 2 word then 3 word sentences as she repeats single words so yes it's more harmful than helpful

In Jamaica we have saying: you can lead jackass(donkey) to water but you cannot force them to drink it.

My daughter can say five word sentences and she’s 20 months old. We don’t watch cartoons, we watch ms Rachel. She knows a catalogue of songs, she learned baby sign language before 6 months. That show is researched and produced with speech therapy and sign language baked right in. Go after Disney all you want but the results from Ms Rachel speak for themselves. SMH.

My kids will go either to a tutoring agency or learn at school. They don’t need to watch tv

All fair points, can we do the public school system next? I genuinely wonder how does that compare to one on one teaching from a parent?

Ms Rachel uses strategies for Gestalt language processors, which she started to do because her son was one and she couldn’t find content that addressed that learning style. This opinion, and these studies, don’t take neurodivergence and different learning styles into account. You just have to read the comments in her YouTube videos to find out that she’s helped non-verbal kids say their first words. Someone in my family also benefited a lot from her videos. Just cause it’s not for every kid doesn’t mean it’s not for any kid.
